Creole sandbox

NME (Nyctergatis Markup Engine) is an open-source implementation of a markup parser based on Creole 1.0. Feedback welcome on my discussion page.

You can type some text with markup, or start with a document which shows all markup, or with slides (the Slides output format starts new pages for each level-2 headings).

Different styles are supported: **bold**, //italic//,

Triple-braces prevent Creole from interpreting what's inside:
compare {{{**stars**}}} and **{{{stars}}}**. Escape
character is similar, but limited to a single non-blank
character: ~*~* (or just ~**).

Text after an empty line ends lists (even nested ones) and
begins a new paragraph (tables end with the first line which
doesn't begin with a vertical bar).

==Links and images==
Links can be simple URL between double brackets, such as
[[http://www.wikicreole.org]] (note that double-slash isn't
interpreted as an italic tag if it follows a colon and
isn't followed by a space or end-of-line), or have a different
string, such as [[http://www.wikicreole.org | WikiCreole]].

This implementation supports [[WikiPedia:InterWiki
| Interwiki]]
with the following entries: ##Dictionary##, ##Foldoc##,
##Google##, ##WhoIs##, and ##WikiPedia##.

Words with CamelCase (uppercase letters following lowercase
letters) and URL can be converted automatically to local links. The
Creole parser could also easily convert smileys to inline images.

Images have a similar syntax; the text is an alternative to
the image, displayed in particular when output format does not
support images:

This Creole parser is very forgiving: mixed styles **don't have
//to be** nested// correctly. They can even lack the __end tag.

In lists, markup must match, else it is either considered as plain
characters or as bold or monospace:

* first item of an unordered list
# sharp invalid for unordered list, hence it is a plain character
** first item of sublist
*# only the star matches the top-level list
## monospace

Styles are reset at the end of each paragraph, heading or list
item. Headings don't require a correct end-of-heading tag.

Horizontal rules are made of at least four hyphens.
-----------------Text can follow rules and headings on the
same line.

Basically, the Creole parser will do its best to accept
anything you'll give it and still produce some output.

==Plugins==
Plugins are a way to add features to Creole. Here is a plugin which
reverses its data:

markup, the end marker must also be in a line by itself, which
permits to have >> in the plugin contents as here.

Plugins can generate Creole output which is processed again
by the parser. Here is a calendar in a table for June 2007:

Finally, here is a plugin which generates a table of contents
for HTML output by parsing the whole input once more and toggling
between special output creation for headings and no output elsewhere.
Usually, it should be placed at the beginning of the document.
Here, headings of levels 2 to 3 are collected.
